Mixing Calculator

Tell it the dose you want, how strong the vial is, and how much solution you're adding. It works out where to draw the syringe to, on the barrel you are actually holding, and how many doses the vial holds.

1

Target dose (mcg)

How much peptide you want in each draw.

mcg

Target dose: 250 mcg = 0.25 mg. 1 mg = 1,000 mcg.

2

Vial strength (mg)

Milligrams of lyophilised peptide in the vial, as printed on the label.

3

Reconstitution solution (mL)

Millilitres of bacteriostatic water or solution added to the vial. Typical range 1 mL – 5 mL; this field accepts up to 30 mL.

Worked example

250 mcg from a 5 mg vial

The vial is 5 mg. You add 3 mL of reconstitution solution. You want 250 mcg of peptide in each draw, taken with a 0.5 mL U-100 syringe.

1

Set your target dose

Switch the field to mcg and enter 250 mcg — the same quantity as 0.25 mg. That is how much peptide you want in each draw.

2

Enter your vial strength

Enter 5 mg, since the vial is labelled 5 mg of lyophilised peptide.

3

Enter your solution volume

You are adding 3 mL of reconstitution solution to the vial, so enter 3 mL.

4

What the calculator does

5 mg (5,000 mcg) in 3 mL of solution is 1.667 mg/mL, or 1,667 mcg/mL. Dividing the 250 mcg target by that concentration gives 0.15 mL, and 0.15 mL on a U-100 syringe is 15 units.

5

Read it off the barrel you actually hold

15 units is a printed mark on a 0.3 mL or 0.5 mL syringe, both graduated every unit. A 1 mL syringe is graduated every 2 units, so the nearest settable mark there is 16 units, which delivers 266.7 mcg — 6.7% over target. Set the selector under the syringe illustration to the barrel in your hand and the calculator will say which.

Summary

5 mg of peptide in 3 mL of solution is a concentration of 1.667 mg/mL (1,667 mcg/mL). A 250 mcg dose is 0.15 mL of that solution, which is 15 units on a U-100 syringe.
